Coaching and mentoring courses

The Institute of Leadership & Management offers coaching and mentoring courses for a variety of levels, from first line managers who want to be able to develop a coaching relationship with their line reports, to individuals who will take a lead coaching role inside their organisations, to people looking for a career as a professional coach.

ILM's coaching and mentoring courses emphasise practical, hands-on experience in which book or classroom learning are applied and assessed.  Taking an ILM coaching or mentoring course will equip you with the ability to apply knowledge and the insight to adapt their approach and techniques to the person being coached.

We believe strongly that coaching and mentoring are key tools to transform workplaces for the 21st Century, to help organisations improve performance and individuals to lift their performance and achieve their full potential.  ILM is the only awarding body to provide coaching and mentoring courses which can eventually lead to a professional qualification in coaching and mentoring.  We are pioneers in this field and our courses are the ideal means to add coaching and mentoring to your management skillset, or prepare for a career in coaching and mentoring.

Course levels

We offer courses at three levels:

Level 3 qualifications focus on the skills and knowledge required to coach team members effectively in the workplace and develop their performance.  All study at this level includes time devoted to practical coaching, with the option to convert the basic award to a certificate through further hands-on coaching experience.

Level 5 qualifications are aimed at managers responsible for coaching or mentoring newly appointed managers and professional and senior technical staff. For those wishing to develop their careers as professional management coaches, a further unit requiring 100 hours of supervised coaching converts this certificate into a diploma. 

Level 7 qualifications are aimed at senior managers who want to develop a coaching style of leadership in their organisation , or training professionals seeking to provide coaching support to develop leadership capability in others. Having achieved the certificate, those who wish to develop their careers as executive coaches can complete an additional unit with 125 supervised coaching to complete the Diploma for Professional Executive Coaches and Leadership Mentors
