Leadership and management
Leadership and management require constant development and the aquisition of new leadership and management knowledge and skills. For businesses and organisations to overcome challenges, their leaders and managers must be performing at the best of their ability.
We view leadership and management through the lens of a unique learning and development model, focused on three distinct dimensions: Knowing, Doing and Being. By focusing on all three of these we believe leadership can be transformed in the 21st Century.
Leadership development
Knowing….is about the body of knowledge you need to be a good leader and manager. It is about acquiring the appropriate technical skills and know-how. It concerns fundamental knowledge in areas such as marketing, HR and finance, and skills in communication and working with people, for example.
Doing… Good leaders and managers must be able to translate theory into practice. It is about how effective you are at using the technical skills and know-how you possess. It is about being able to lead a team, or manage a project, for example, not just knowing how it should be done.
Being… is about who you are, and how much you know about yourself. Self-knowledge and awareness is an integral component of good leadership and management. Good leaders are aware of the impact they have on others, they are comfortable in their own skin, understand how to engender trust, and have a framework of values within which they can operate with integrity.
Knowledge for leaders
Our website is a resource for leaders, managers and those who are working to join them. We create leaders through ILM's courses, through our membership and our events, but we also share our knowledge here.
