Managing generation Y - resources

Our recent research, undertaken jointly with Ashridge Business School, set out to explore how recent graduates now in employment viewed their jobs and their managers, and to compare these views with those same managers’ views of the graduates they were managing.

What resources are available?

There are plenty of resources available online including:

How can I use the research?

You can point learners towards these resources before or after running a workshop about the findings. You can also show the videos to a group directly from the ILM website or from our YouTube channel.

These resources can help learners on all ILM programmes. In particular, the focus of the research – on motivation, career expectations and attitudes to work – fits well with the content of several Level 3 and Level 5 ILM units:

  • Motivating to perform in the workplace (M3.12)
  • Managing performance (M3.26)
  • Becoming an effective leader (M5.06).

To help you use the research, we have a prepared a short PowerPoint presentation and tutor notes.

The PowerPoint presentation contains 12 slides; you are free to edit these, delete any you don’t want to use and add your own additional slides.

The tutor notes have copies of the slides and comments about them as well as suggestions for discussion topics based on the content of each slide.
