Voluntary Sector

ILM has been working with the UK Workforce Development hub of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations to develop qualifications to meet the specific leadership and management needs of the voluntary sector. We also recently formed a partnership with Volunteering England to recognise the high standards of their management development as an ILM Endorsed Programme.

How ILM supports the sector

ILM currently offers a suite of NVQs (national vocational qualifications) for people managing volunteers:

  • Level 3 for front-line managers managing individual or groups of volunteers on a day-to-day basis
  • Level 4 for managers with overall responsibility for recruiting, managing and developing volunteers in their organisation, who may also have day-to-day management responsibilities for the volunteers
  • Level 5 for middle and senior managers with strategic responsibility for harnessing the advantages of volunteering within their organisation’s work

How ILM will support the sector in the future

In addition to this, ILM will soon be launching complementary units to widen the scope of the vocationally related qualifications (VRQs) to support managers in this sector.
